Tottenham youngster is stepping up.
One of the knock on effects of Hugo Lloris’ injury is a promotion for Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alfie Whiteman.
A year ago he was fourth choice, behind Lloris, Paul Gazzaniga and Michel Vorm.
Vorm was released at the end of June and Lloris is now out for the rest of 2019, BBC Sport report. This puts Whiteman up to second choice.
So who is Whiteman?
Here is a look at his career so far..
The first thing to note is that Whiteman is now 21 and has not played a single first team game.
Spurs have not sent him on a single loan spell, which could have been helpful for him.
The closest he has come is playing for Spurs’ under-23 side in the EFL Trophy, in which he has four appearances.
He also has featured for Tottenham in the UEFA Youth League.
Whiteman has represented England at under-19 level, with his last appearance for his country coming back in 2017.
He did travel with Spurs on pre-season and has been on the bench for the first team in the Carabao Cup before, including the recent defeat to Colchester.
He is under contract until June 2020 and this could be his opportunity to impress.
If anything happens to Paulo Gazzaniga, injury or suspension, Whiteman will become the club’s number one.
