Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Diego Costa was sent off in the 1-1 draw between Brentford and Wolves in the Premier League.

Diego Costa dismissed in Brentford 1-1 Wolves

Well, the Spain international lost his cool in the 96th minute as he stuck a headbutt on Ben Mee, who opened the scoring in the 50th minute with a wonderful scissor-kick.

Referring to Costa’s aggressive nature, Lineker sarcastically asked who would’ve expected such behaviour from the Wolves No.29 – you can see the BBC Match of the Day host’s tweet in full below.

Rather ironically in regards to Lineker’s tweet, it was actually the 34-year-old’s first ever red card in the Premier League, on his 95th appearance in England’s top-flight.

It is truly hard to believe.

Despite years of confrontations with forwards all over England during his time at Chelsea, Costa somehow avoided a red card – until now.

It means the Brazil-born striker will miss the final three games before the World Cup kicks off.

Wolves will be without Costa for next week’s clash with Brighton, while they will also have to make do without him for the Carabao Cup game against Leeds and the Premier League encounter with Arsenal.

At a time where Wolves are desperately short of strikers – which is why Costa was signed on a free transfer in the first place – he has seriously let his side down.

Even if he hadn’t received a red card, Costa still let Wolves down earlier today.

As WhoScored shows, the hotheaded forward completed just nine passes in his 96 minutes on the pitch, which is staggeringly low – he averaged roughly one pass every ten minutes.

Talk about not getting involved.

Since arriving at Molineux, Costa has been nothing short of a passenger for Wolves, at a time where they desperately needed him to roll back the years and lead them from the front.

Now, we wouldn’t be surprised if he never starts for Wolves again.
