Carvalhal’s fate as Sheffield Wednesday manager could be decided after Saturday’s visit of Middlesbrough.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal looks to have survived for a little while longer, despite seeing his side’s win-less run extended to six matches courtesy of Friday’s defeat by Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Nevertheless, many Owls fans appear to have reached the end of their tether with the Portuguese, with chants of ‘we want Carlos out’ prominent at each of the club’s last two fixtures. And few would be surprised if the situation came to a head this weekend, with promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough next up at Hillsborough.
If Carvalhal does depart, however, who could Wednesday turn to as they look to get their own assault on the top of the table up and running?
HITC Sport’s run-down of potential appointments concludes here, with three managers recently made available…
Paul Clement

Sacked by Swansea City earlier this week, with the Welsh side bottom of the Premier League, Clement may have to look down for his next managerial role and is sure to be intrigued by any vacancy that opens up at Wednesday. A renowned number two, whose CV includes spells at Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, the 45-year-old’s solo career hasn’t gone quite so well, although he perhaps has a right to feel aggrieved by each of his two sackings – one with Derby fifth in the Championship; the other after Swansea sold and failed to replace three of their most influential players.
Tony Pulis

Often called in to save Premier League clubs threatened by relegation, Pulis may fancy a change of scenery after his recent sacking by West Bromwich Albion. He previously led Stoke City into the top flight and kept them there, which is bound to appeal to a club like Wednesday – even though it could mean a complete style change. This one, admittedly, is somewhat ambitious.
Oscar Garcia

Some Wednesday supporters may remember Garcia for his spells at Brighton & Hove Albion and, briefly, Watford. He has since managed Red Bull Salzburg to two league titles, before another short spell at Saint Etienne, from whom he resigned in October. The 44-year-old is well-connected, having played and worked for Barcelona, but could be interested in a return to English football. His temperamentality would be a concern, however.
