The international break has rumbled a few fans since the close of the summer transfer window.
England may have secured a win at the start of their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign but the desire for the Premier League to return this weekend is evident across a variety of Premier League clubs.
We’ve taken a look at some winners and losers from the international break.
Winners
Tottenham Hotspur
Harry Kane scored a great goal for England’s under-21 side as their qualification campaign for the European under-21 Championship in the Czech Republic next year came to a close. Ben Davies also produced a superb assist for Gareth Bale in a 2-1 win for Wales.
Manchester City
No long term calf injury for Vincent Kompany is brilliant news. Hearts were in mouths last week when he was pulled out of training and sent for a scan, with fears that the Belgian defender would be out of action for a crucial period in the club’s season.
Everton
One of the lower profile Everton players away on international duty during the international was youngster Callum Connolly, who bagged a brace in an England under-18 win against the Netherlands.
Losers
Chelsea
Diego Costa pulled out of Spain’s squad during the international break with a hamstring problem he seems to have been carrying from last season. Fingers crossed it won’t keep him out of action for the Blues, as he’s scored four goals in his first three Premier League games.
Arsenal
It wouldn’t be an international break if an Arsenal player didn’t get injured. Aaron Ramsey is the latest to hit the treatment room after he picked up an ankle problem during Wales’ 2-1 win in Andorra last night. Arsene Wenger is likely to give an update on his fitness at a press conference tomorrow.
Liverpool
Daniel Sturridge picked up a thigh problem during the international break but quickly moved to calm fears that he could be out long term, by stating on Instagram that he expected to be back in action soon. He’s one of Liverpool’s most important players so here’s to hoping that’s the case.
Manchester United
No injuries to speak about but Dutch duo Daley Blind and Robin Van Persie both tasted defeat during the break. Blind started in a 2-0 friendly defeat to Italy while Van Persie started in a 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic as the Euro 2016 qualifiers got under way.
