Whites ace claims Aston Villa were lucky; shares what Leeds players know heading into festive period

Leeds United were held at home by Aston Villa on Friday.

Whites ace Liam Cooper spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa on Friday night, and insisted that the Villans were lucky to leave Elland Road with a point, as quoted by the Sunday Express.

Friday’s draw left Leeds in eighth position in the Championship table, and although they are five points adrift of the play-off spots, there is genuine optimism emanating from the club that they can go on and earn promotion back to the Premier League.

Cooper, 26, has been a mainstay for the Whites this season, making 16 Championship appearances, and performing to an incredibly consistent level.

The centre-back spoke to reporters after his side’s draw with Steve Bruce’s men, and discussed his side’s hopes of earning a place inside the top six this season, as quoted by the Sunday Express:

“There is a sense of deflation. I thought we were the better team for long durations of the game. There are always going to be times in games when teams do get on top, but I thought we handled that. I thought the goal was a bit lucky on their behalf. In the end, a point is a decent point, against a good Aston Villa side. Two or three weeks ago we may have lost that game. We know if we are on it and compete to the best of our ability that we can beat anybody in this league. In the last few games it has really clicked in people’s minds.”

Next up for the west Yorkshire outfit is a trip to Queens Park Rangers, before back-to-back home games against Norwich City and Hull City respectively, and Thomas Christiansen will be looking for at least seven points from those games, as he looks to guide his side back into play-off contention.
