As Tottenham thrashed Sunderland 5-1, midfielder Erik Lamela was spotted on a flight to his former home city of Rome.
Despite assurances from his brother that Erik Lamela won’t be leaving Tottenham, rumours abound in Italy after the attacking midfielder was seen on a flight to Rome.
The Argentine international joined Tottenham from Roma for a club record fee of £25.8m plus possible bonuses last summer.
But Lamela has been dogged with injury and hasn’t been able to show his potential at White Hart Lane.
There have been rumours that the 22-year-old isn’t happy in London and could attempt to return to Italy as soon as possible.
While Lamela’s brother Brian has insisted that Erik will stay and fight for his future at Spurs, the Italian press have reacted with interest to news that the player flew to Rome last night.
Lamela was injured and therefore broke no rules by making the trip but it has restarted the rumour mill.
If Roma and Lamela both wanted a return it would still be tough to agree a deal after such a big-money switch so recently, but speculation is inevitable.
