All four of Tottenham Hotspur’s full-backs are fit and raring to go for the North London derby.
For arguably the first time this season, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has all four of his senior wing-backs at full fitness, and a selection dilemma on his hands for Saturday’s trip to Arsenal.
In Serge Aurier, Kieran Trippier, Ben Davies and Danny Rose, there may not be a better unit in the Premier League.
Rose’s long injury layoff had prevented Pochettino from having a full complement, but the 27-year-old has now got a couple of games under his belt to challenge Davies’s wide left spot for the North London derby.
Davies has been one of Tottenham’s most consistent performers this season and will take some budging. The Welshman has improved his attacking input immeasurably and has two goals and two assists in the league.
However, Pochettino has twice used Aurier at left wing-back in big games to have the insurance of extra defensive pace, and may fancy Rose, who is more athletic than Davies, against Arsenal for the same reason.
The smart money would be on Davies reclaiming his place though.
It should be an easier decision for Pochettino on the other flank, with Aurier’s history of ill-discipline making him an unnecessary gamble ahead of Trippier for an encounter which has every chance of getting feisty.
The summer signing was needlessly sent off in the London derby with West Ham United earlier this season, and Pochettino should put his trust in Trippier, whose final ball is a great weapon for striker Harry Kane.
