A potential move for the Inter Milan midfielder could mean one Tottenham Hotspur player is heading for the exit door.

According to a recent report from Italian news outlet Tuttomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are keen to make a move for Inter Milan midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer. The Frenchman joined Inter Milan in 2015 from Monaco, and has impressed many in Serie A this his performances this season.
However, with Tottenham Hotspur already having four central midfielders vying for two positions, just what would a move for Kondogbia mean for the current crop of Spurs players?
Currently, Tottenham Hotspur have Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama, Mousa Dembele and Harry Winks to fill the two central midfield positions in Maurcio Pochettino’s 4-2-3-1 formation. As well as these three, Spurs can also field Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko in these positions, and also have promising youngsters coming through like Josh Onomah.
As a defensive-minded midfielder, Geoffrey Kondogbia would also be looking to fit into the role of the two. Strong in the tackle like Wanyama, the Frenchman offers an extra body to screen the defence, but it is likely to be his distributional abilities that have caught Pochettino’s eye. Kondogbia can spread a pass better than anyone in that Inter Milan side, and has become one of the most reliable playmakers in Serie A.
Tottenham’s Dele Alli celebrates with Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama
It is hard to imagine Pochettino ditching Dembele or Wanyama, both favourites of the Argentine, although Kondogbia could offer an option instead of the Belgian, considering he is five years younger. With Dier operating in defence for much of this season and Harry Winks recently suffering a serious injury, there is a need for reinforcements in that area of the park, and Dembele is able to play further forward too.
Don’t rule out a potential departure for Spurs’ big-money summer signing, Moussa Sissoko – even if he tends to feature in a different position. Tottenham Hotspur fans have been angry and disappointed by the French midfielder’s form, and he often looks to be out of his league when compared with the other Tottenham workhorses such as Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son. Might Spurs consider a potential swap move with Inter Milan, as a way of both offloading Sissoko and bringing down the price of their midfield target?
