Newcastle are in need of reinforcements in the January transfer window

With the January transfer window set to open, there is much speculation about which players could be on the move in the near future.
Newcastle United, having endured a difficult first half of the campaign, certainly need to improve their squad, but which position do they need to strengthen in the most?

It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to suggest that Newcastle could do with reinforcements all across the pitch, but they are especially in need of a quality winger.
Matt Ritchie and Jacob Murphy have been underwhelming this season and have lacked conviction in front of goal, while Christian Atsu is talented but doesn’t appear to be capable of inspiring Newcastle to save themselves from relegation.

Manager Rafael Benitez needs to bring in at least one winger this month and a player such as Bournemouth’s Junior Stanislas, who scored seven goals in the Premier League last season, would be a useful addition, although it may be difficult to secure such a move.
If Newcastle were to bring in a talented winger then it would be hugely beneficial as it would also provide their attack with greater service.
At present, Dwight Gayle can often appear isolated up front and has to drop deep to gain possession, whereas a reliable winger could help to make his task much easier.
