With the transfer window almost upon us, what players should Newcastle United sign this summer if they are promoted to the Premier League?
With promotion to the Premier League in touching distance, Newcastle United fans are getting understandably excited about the summer. Under Rafa Benitez’s guidance, Magpies supporters are confident that their club can solidify their place back in the top flight next season, should they be backed in the same way they were last summer.
But who should Newcastle United be looking to sign? After spending huge amounts under both Steve McClaren last time they were in the Premier League and Rafa Benitez last summer, Newcastle United have proved, despite the criticism they receive, that they will back their managers financially. But can the Magpies afford to continue to spend as big as they have been? Will it just be one or two through the door this summer?

Names such as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were put forward, though we feel Newcastle United might not quite be able to afford players like this just yet. “We need a strong centre-forward, who’s played in the Premier League” said one Newcastle United forward. The Magpies have relied on Dwight Gayle this season for goals, and there are doubts whether Aleksander Mitrovic is good enough quality.
“We’ll be looking for a new centre-half” said another Newcastle fan, “as I think Mbemba will be gone.” Newcastle United already have Jamaal Lascelles, Ciaran Clark and Grant Hanley to fill in that position, but supporters feel the club could do with another “leader” at the back. “Lascelles is great but he’s too young to be captain” added one Newcastle United fan.
Some fans were also concerned that Dwight Gayle might not be up for a full season of football. Despite the striker scoring over 20 goals for the Magpies this season, the former Crystal Palace man has been struck by two bad injuries throughout the campaign.
Whatever happens – the future is certainly going to be interesting for Newcastle United.
