Everton signed a host of players in the summer but have made a woeful start to the season.
Everton undertook a significant recruitment drive in the summer transfer window as they brought in a host of players but many of those new arrivals certainly haven’t had the desired impact so far, with the club left languishing in 15th place in the Premier League.
Following the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, Everton have still yet to appoint a permanent manager but whoever takes charge there could still be a chance for some of the summer signings to redeem themselves.
Goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has had to pick the ball out of his net 22 times in the Premier League so far this season but the 23-year-old demonstrated during England’s recent draw with Germany that he is a fine shot-stopper.
Meanwhile, another England international, defender Michael Keane, is a player with vast potential who could thrive under the right guidance.
If used correctly then Gylfi Sigurdsson, who joined from Swansea City, could be effective for Everton given the vast amount of Premier League experience that he possesses.
However, for some of Everton’s other recent arrivals it is difficult to envisage their stay at Goodison Park being a successful one.
Midfielder Davy Klaassen, for instance, has struggled to settle and seems ill suited to English football, as does striker Sandro Ramirez.
Right-back Cuco Martina is unconvincing and often gets caught out of position.
Wayne Rooney appears to be past his best and more of a hindrance than a help to this Everton team, while Nikola Vlasic certainly possesses much potential but the Croatian, who is capable of operating as a winger or an attacking midfielder, is still rather raw at present.
Overall, it seems that Pickford, Keane and Sigurdsson are the key candidates that are most likely to succeed out of Everton’s summer signings.
