The Leeds defensive duo won the competition back in 2009.
Leeds United have been in great form recently, climbing up to sixth in the Championship table after Garry Monk settled into life in the Championship nicely.
Their new head coach has brought out the best in Leeds, especially at the back. Much of that is due in large part to three new recruits.
Pontus Jansson, the bullish Swede, is the most popular of the trio.
Sanchez Watt – Arsenal Youth celebrates his goal for 3 -1 with Jay Emmanuel Thomas and Kyle Bartley
But Luke Ayling and Kyle Bartley, signed from Bristol City and Swansea on permanent and loan moves respectively, have also been key to Leeds’ good form.
It is a fact that is often glossed over, but Bartley and Ayling know each other very well. They were in the Arsenal youth team together. In fact, they were key members in the Arsenal side that won the FA Youth Cup back in 2009.
So, could Leeds eventually add another member of that squad?
One of the players in that team did in fact have a loan spell at Leeds. Sanchez Watt spent a spell at Elland Road.
Another would be a brilliant but ambitious signing. Jack Wilshere might have to wait until Leeds get promoted back to the Premier League. Francis Coquelin also seems unlikely.
Arsenal’s Henri Lansbury in action against Liverpool’s Chris Buchtmann (L)
Others, such as Emmanuel Frimpong or Jay Emmanuel-Thomas once showed great talent but have never lived up to their potential.
But what about Henri Lansbury. He is out of contract in the summer at Nottingham Forest, who look likely to be remaining in the Championship yet again.
Of all the players likely to join Ayling and Bartley at Leeds, he seems the most likely.
