West Ham United earned a dogged point away at Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night and Tim Sherwood was trending on Twitter because of it.
West Ham went into the match as underdogs and took a surprise lead through Pedro Obiang’s wonder strike only for Tottenham to hit back with a worldie of own.
Despite Spurs’ dominance West Ham, with a patched up side shorn of the likes of Aaron Cresswell, Marko Arnautovic and Michail Antonio, put in a determined and organised display to earn their point.
That was a far cry from the predictions of former Spurs player and manager Tim Sherwood, who backed his old team to run riot against their London rivals.
Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of the game Sherwood was utterly dismissive of West Ham’s chances, saying it would be a cricket score and suggesting Spurs would score at will.
He continued to belittle the Hammers throughout his punditry and said they were lucky not to lose 4 or 5-1 and even described Obiang’s goal of the season contender as ‘lucky’.
Sherwood, who has been out of a managerial job since being sacked as boss of Aston Villa back in 2015, was savaged by West Ham fans for his comments with hundreds taking great pleasure in mocking him on social media.
