Liverpool youngster Jordon Ibe impressed in the Merseyside Derby.

The weekend’s Merseyside derby was far from memorable, but Jordon Ibe will surely never forget it.

It was the teenager’s first taste of playing in such a fixture, and his effort which nearly won it, only to rebound off the woodwork, will surely live with him forever.

He was recalled from on loan at Derby County after manager Brendan Rodgers felt he could contribute, and have a similar impact on the first team as Raheem Sterling did during his breakthrough season.

Sterling is every inch the established star right now, an England international, he has six goals and six assists for the Reds this season. Brendan Rodgers was quoted in The Mail last year describing him as the best young player in Europe.

Yet Ibe did something at the weekend which Sterling has not accomplished all season, bettering his more established colleague with his display.

Ibe’s passing accuracy of 94 per cent was higher than any Premier League game in which Sterling has put in during 2014/15 for a game in which he has started.

The figures are reflective of the composure and assurance he showed on his first Premier League start of the season, and bode well for what he is able to offer between now and the rest of the season.
