Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat is already ahead of Mathieu Debuchy, based on his final season at the club, in a key area.

Daryl Janmaat was snapped up by Newcastle United as a replacement for Mathieu Debuchy last summer, with the French defender moving to Arsenal as Bacary Sagna left for Manchester City.

Debuchy’s exit created a big hole in the Newcastle defence, which was always going to leave Janmaat under heavy pressure to fil the void.

The stats, comparing the two players across their performances at Newcastle (Debuchy stats from last season) show that the Dutchman has generally struggled.

However, he is ahead in one key area, which will excite fans and current head coach John Carver; assists.

Janmaat currently has two more assists than Debuchy managed in his final season at the club which suggests he’s arguably been more effective at the club keeping his head in the opponent’s final third.

The stat suggests that Carver doesn’t have much to worry about from an attacking point of view with the full-back, but there is work to do defensively.

If Janmaat can improve his tackling stats, as well as interceptions and the aerial side of his game, Newcastle will have one hell of a player on their books and they would have been proved right in terms of letting Debuchy leave.
