The Tottenham Hotspur youngster is not enjoying the best of seasons.
Nathan Oduwa’s season started so well, but the Tottenham Hotspur youngster is ending it on something of a downer after being dropped for Nigeria under-23s’ final match of the Suwon International Tournament.
At the start of the campaign the promising winger joined Rangers on loan and he put in some sparkling performances, scoring one goal and setting up five more in 19 matches.
However, he did not feature for a month between mid-December and mid-January and soon after his loan spell was cut short.
With little chance of earning first-team recognition at White Hart Lane in the short term he headed out for another temporary spell, this time to League One side Colchester United, but two substitute appearances totalling just 44 minutes meant Oduwa’s campaign ended with considerably less fanfare than it began.
The 20-year-old later joined up with Nigeria’s under-23 side for the summer tournament, but he looked awful in a 6-2 hammering against Denmark and was subsequently dropped for the match against Honduras.
He will now spend some time on holiday before returning to Tottenham for pre-season hoping to convince manager Mauricio Pochettino he has a role to play for the first-team.
The problem is, while the likes of Josh Onomah and Harry Winks have seized their chances – and Cameron Carter-Vickers looks like following in their footsteps – Oduwa is at risk of falling behind; something he cannot afford to do if he does see his future at Tottenham.
