The Liverpool youngster looks set to leave the club in January.
According to the Sun, Liverpool are willing to allow Lloyd Jones to leave the club in January and, if the 22-year-old moves permanently rather than on loan, it would be a bitter blow for a player once tipped for great things at Anfield.
Jones signed for Liverpool from Plymouth Argyle back in 2011 and he continued his youth development at Anfield, where he quickly impressed Reds coaches.
In time he was expected to push for a first-team spot at Anfield, and loan spells to Cheltenham Town, Accrington Stanley, Blackpool and Swindon Town followed. But Jones is yet to make a senior appearance for Liverpool and now it seems he could be on his way for good.
Injuries have certainly played their part in recent years, but one suspects that if Jones was going to make it at Liverpool he would have done so by now, especially with the Reds’ current centre-backs coming in for plenty of criticism under Jurgen Klopp.
While the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez have stepped in, Jones has been conspicuous by his absence and it seems a January exit will now end his six-year affiliation with Liverpool.
He is still young enough to rebuild his career elsewhere, yet it is sad that he fell short having once been tipped as a future stalwart of the Reds’ back line.
