With memories of their 5-1 thumping at Celtic Park still fresh, Rangers will be desperate to put in an improved showing this weekend as they face Celtic at Hampden Park for a place in the Scottish League Cup final.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are strong favourites to claim their second derby victory of the campaign, but the Bhoys lost a vital Champions League encounter with Borussia Monchengladbach in midweek and will not want a repeat of last season at Hampden, when Rangers stunned their rivals with a win on penalties in the Scottish Cup semi-final.

The Key Battle – Moussa Dembele vs Clint Hill

With the absence of Joey Barton bringing a premature end to his midfield battles against Scott Brown, the attention instead falls on Celtic’s Moussa Dembele.

The young striker destroyed Rangers at Celtic Park, netting a hat-trick in the victory and terrorising the visiting defence all afternoon. Hill will need to make use of all of his experience to keep the 20-year-old quiet.

Last Meeting:

As mentioned, the most recent clash between these two historic rivals came just over a month ago, with Celtic running out 5-1 winners.

Overall, the record is a lot tighter. Rangers have the edge with 159 Old Firm derby wins to Celtic’s 146, while there have been 97 draws.

Who’s the ref?

Craig Thomson has the unenviable task of keeping this one under control.

The 44-year-old will not be overawed, having overseen each of the two most recent cup battles between the Old Firm rivals.
