It’s been a mixed bag for the last Southampton side to play at Wembley in the seven years since.
Alan Pardew was Southampton manager at the time
The last time a Southampton team played at Wembley was in 2010 when they beat Carlisle 4-1 to lift what was then the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, and the starting eleven that day have had some interesting careers since.
Kelvin Davis
Following promotion to the Premier League, Davis was quickly dropped and ended up spending a few years as Southampton’s number two, and sometimes three, goalie before retiring with a testimonial at the end of last season.
He was the club captain throughout and seen to be an important member of the squad and remains at St Mary’s today, overseeing the progress of players out on loan with the official title of ‘Football Development Executive’.
Dan Harding
Harding left when the club were promoted to the top flight as both Danny Fox and Luke Shaw had moved ahead of him in the pecking order, but ended up returning to the area last season to play for Eastleigh.
Now 33, he’s currently playing in the sixth tier for Whitehawk.
Jose Fonte
The last remaining player still turning out for Saints until last month, Fonte has moved to West Ham having won the Euros this summer.
None of the team play for Southampton any more
Radhi Jaidi
The following season, where Saints came second in League One, was effectively the Tunisian’s last hurrah as a player but he remains at Southampton working as assistant manager for the under-23 side.
Jospeh Mills
One in a long list of technically gifted left-backs Southampton have produced, Mills was released a year after the final and bounced around a number of Football League teams before eventually departing these shores to play for Perth Glory.
Four of the side have gone on to be called-up internationally, including Michail Antonio
Michail Antonio
Now we’re talking. Only on loan from Reading at the time, Southampton couldn’t persuade the Royals to part with him on a permanent basis.
Having failed to make the grade at Reading, he’s now starring in the Premier League for West Ham and is one of three members of this side to have been called-up by England, although he’s yet to win a cap.
Paul Wotton
Believe it or not the veteran midfielder kept Morgan Schneiderlin out of the side, although the Frenchman was struggling with a hamstring injury.
Wotton is currently working for Plymouth as first team coach, a club with whom he spent more than 15 years as a player over two spells.
Dean Hammond
Currently a free agent and last seen turning out for Leicester’s under-23 team versus Arsenal at the weekend.
Adam Lallana
The reigning England player of the year has been one of the Premier League’s best this season, tearing it up at Anfield.
Adam Lallana came through Southampton’s academy, as did Joseph Mills
He was influential in the final, just as he was in Southampton’s rise to the Premier League and then up the division, but his time at the club ended on a sour note in 2014, not dissimilar to Fonte’s departure.
Papa Waigo N’Diaye
The tournament’s top scorer, Waigo was perhaps the most important player in Southampton winning the trophy but wasn’t signed permanently at the end of the season.
He currently plays lower league football in the UAE.
Rickie Lambert was Southampton’s top scorer that season
Rickie Lambert
Now at Cardiff, but it’s been a hell of a journey to get there including a goal on his England debut, a horrible move to boyhood club Liverpool and an unsuccessful stint at West Brom.
His penalty set Southampton on their way and was one of 34 he scored for the club in 34 attempts.
