Some Arsenal fans on social media have been reacting after The Athletic reported that Mikel Arteta vetoed a move for Emerson Royal this summer.
Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the Brazilian this summer, and according to David Ornstein, there was a swap deal lined up with Barcelona that would have seen Hector Bellerin go the other way.
However, Arteta threw the brakes on this deal, believing that Emerson wasn’t a good fit for the Gunners’ system, instead opting to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu from Bologna.
Arsenal fans certainly believe this was a wise decision, and they’ve been voicing their opinions on social media.
To be honest, it’s too early to say whether or not this was the right call from the manager. Emerson did have a poor debut against Crystal Palace, while Tomiyasu looked brilliant against Norwich, but can you really judge a player on one game?
Of course, fans are always quick to get carried away, and they believe that their manager has made a great decision on the right-backs.
