The host nations for the 2026 World Cup final have already been named – but the venue for the final isn’t yet decided.
United States, Canada and Mexico are coming together to host the tournament, some 32 on from USA 1994.
The Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California hosted the final between Brazil and Italy but it looks like that venue isn’t in contention for the 2026 final.
Sporting News have reported that the race to host the 2026 World Cup final is now down to just three stadiums.
SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California is one option.
The home of NFL sides the Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, SoFi holds just over 70,000 fans and has been picked as one of two California stadiums over the Rose Bowl.
With an alleged cost of around $5.5bn, SoFi is a truly remarkable stadium and hosted the Super Bowl in February 2022.
MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey is another contender.
Opened in 2010, MetLife is the home of the New York Jets and New York Giants.
It isn’t as flashy or new as SoFi but MetLife has the x-factor of focusing on the New York market and that could be hugely appealing.
Dallas the favourite to host the 2026 World Cup final
The final candidate is the AT&T Stadium, also known as ‘Jerry World’ after Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Based in Arlington, Texas, the AT&T Stadium has been the home of the Cowboys since 2009.
ESPN’s Hercules Gomez claimed via colleague John Sutcliffe in September that the AT&T Stadium is currently the favourite to win the rights for the 2026 World Cup final.
AT&T Stadium has hosted WrestleMania twice and the Super Bowl once, racking up an attendance of 103,219 for the latter.
We’re not saying to plan a trip to Texas in 2026 but it currently looks like the most probable destination as things stand.
