Thierry Henry says Gabriel Jesus believes Arsenal can win the Premier League title and that mindset is ‘contagious’ to the rest of the group, as he told Amazon Prime Sport.
Mikel Arteta’s high-flying Arsenal are sitting at the top of the Premier League table heading into 2023 and they will remain top for the next few games, even if they start to lose.
But with one defeat from 15 Premier League games to their name, it’s pretty difficult to see who will down this team because, even when they are falling behind or have injuries to big players like Jesus, they are still coming out on top.
Added to that, even a loss of momentum during the World Cup break hasn’t affected them, as they proved during their Boxing Day win against West Ham United.
What was even fitting for the Gunners was that Arsene Wenger was in attendance for the first time since he left the club and so was another Highbury hero in Thierry Henry.
The Premier League icon spoke about Arsenal having to ’embrace’ that they are in a title battle and how someone like Jesus truly believes it can be done.
“What I love about it is that we are talking about Arsenal winning the title,” said Henry. “Let’s not hide it or be shameful about it. We are title contenders and we have to embrace it, not be cocky with it and see what’s going to happen.
“What I like again about what you are going to miss with Jesus is that he has won it. I arrived at this football club, with a lot of people that had won it. You don’t have a lot of people that have won the league here. Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko did it.
“You can see that they are transmitting that to the younger lads in the team and that’s what I love about Gabriel Jesus. When you hear him talking, he always says I believe we can win the league and that’s contagious.”
ARSENAL’S PREMIER LEAGUE TITLE CHARGE
Before Arsenal can say goodbye to 2022, they will travel to the South Coast to take on Brighton, before starting 2023 with a mouthwatering fixture against Newcastle United.
That will probably be the biggest test of Arsenal’s season so far because, at this moment in time, Eddie Howe’s men have won their last six league matches and they are sitting second in the table.
If they come through that, then there are two heavyweight Premier League bouts awaiting them in January, the north London derby and Eric ten Hag’s Manchester United, who have been the only team to beat them this season.
But the one everyone is waiting for is their meeting with Manchester City – their first of the season – on February 15th. If they come through that still top of the league and going strong, then it would seriously, seriously start to make fans believe that the unthinkable can happen.
