When will Cody Gakpo make his debut?

As the transfer window only opens on January 1st, Gakpo will not be able to play a part against Leicester City on Friday.

The winger’s transfer to the Reds has all-but been announced, but he won’t be able to be registered until the new year.

However, according to The Times’ Paul Joyce, the winger should be eligible to play against Brentford next Monday.

Unfortunately though, according to this report, Gakpo only returned to training from World Cup duty last week, so he may not be ready to start against the Bees.

Although, saying that, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain being utilised on the left wing against Aston Villa on Boxing Day, the need for new-blood in the attack is evident, and Gakpo may have to go in at the deep end against the west London club.

With Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino all out of action for the foreseeable future, Gakpo may be a key player for the Reds over the next few months as Jurgen Klopp battles with a spate of injuries to his key attacking players.

A cameo off the bench may be more likely for Gakpo against Brentford though with a first Premier League start against Brighton potentially representing his full league debut for the club.
