Speaking on the Gwlad Tidings podcast, Greg O’Keeffe has provided an insight into Everton’s plan with Marcel Brands.
The Toffees’ Director of Football is out of contract in the summer, and as you can imagine, that has led to speculation about whether or not he will be staying at the club beyond this season.
We don’t know whether or not he will be staying, but O’Keeffe says that Everton plan to get this resolved sooner rather than later.
“The first thing to say obviously with Marcel Brands is that you’d like a resolution one way or another as soon as possible,” O’Keeffe said.
“When we asked the question (about his contract), late last year they said that they were relaxed and that they were looking to resolve it in the new year. You would probably have expected at that point some kind of indication either way by the point of the general meeting, but that’s been and gone now as we know.”

We’ve not had any official communication about Brands staying yet, so we’re none the wiser about what discussions have been had between him and the club.
Of course, ideally he will be staying, after all, he was the mastermind behind some brilliant transfer deals for Everton, including bringing James Rodriguez in on a free transfer and the signings of Ben Godfrey and Allan.
Fortunately, it seems as though Everton don’t plan on letting this situation run on for two long as O’Keeffe says they planned on addressing it in the new year.
This is definitely. a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.
