The boyhood Sheffield United fan seems to relish this fixture above any other and, buoyed by Friday’s win against promotion contenders Bristol City, will head into Wednesday evening as confident as ever of making the Owls suffer – even with his side 14 places worse off than their opponents.

It’s a well-known fact that there’s little love lost between the two: Warnock famously told FourFourTwo magazine of his sinister intentions were he ever to take over at Hillsborough, while Wednesday’s plans to appoint him in 2013 were swiftly reconsidered after being met with significant uproar.
