Tony Cascarino has praised Newcastle United transfer target Kyle Walker-Peters for becoming a ‘really good’ player for Southampton despite being sold by Tottenham Hotspur in 2020.
The former Republic of Ireland international thinks Kyle Walker-Peters has come on ‘leaps and bounds’ since he was shown the exit door by Tottenham, as he told talkSPORT.
Since then, he has faired well at Southampton, but the whole club hit the biggest of brick walls last season and suffered relegation to the Championship.
But the 26-year-old, who has also earned England caps during his time at St Mary’s, is a wanted man by a number of Premier League clubs this summer.
Unai Emery’s Aston Villa have been named as a possible destination, whilst it has also been suggested that Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are discussing signing the versatile fullback, as reported by The Telegraph.
You would imagine that the Saints wouldn’t command such a high transfer fee for their player given their situation, as Cascarino shared his thoughts on the Spurs academy product.
“I have always liked Kyle Walker-Peters at Southampton,” said Cascarino. “When Spurs let him go. I thought Southampton got a really good player.
“I like the way he plays. I think he has come on leaps and bounds at Southampton.”
Walker-Peters would be a smart purchase
There is a lot of quality there from the Englishman and he still has the ability to play for a Premier League club, even one in Europe.
A great technical player that has brilliant balance in his game. He can operate on either flank and be trusted out of possession to understand what is wanted.
From a squad perspective, he could be very valuable to many teams in England’s top flight and a possible smart purchase if they pushed to sign him.
