HITC understands that Manchester City are not prepared to discover Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City until the end of the year.

Pep Guardiola led Manchester City to their fourth Premier League title in a row last season following a comfortable final day victory over West Ham United at the Etihad Stadium.

Since becoming manager of the Citizens back in the summer of 2016, Guardiola’s City have only failed to win the Premier League title on two occasions, which is an extraordinary feat and Gary Lineker hailed the Spaniard as one of the greatest managers of all time.

However, with the Spaniard quickly approaching ten years at the club, as well as being in the final year of his contract, talk of his future has become a key topic of conversation.

City not expecting to discover Guardiola decision until end of year

HITC revealed earlier in the year that City were hoping to have talks with Guardiola this summer with a view to persuading him to extend his stay, but they did not expect a decision until later in the year.

HITC can confirm that Guardiola spoke with the club’s hierarchy at the end of the season, but he is not yet ready to make a firm decision over his future at the club.

Sources have told HITC that a two-year extension is waiting for Guardiola but they do not expect a decision from the Spaniard until the end of the year.

Guardiola arrived at City in 2016 and has since signed three new deals. The last two of those have both come in the November before his contract was due to expire in the following summer – in both 2020 and 2022.

Guardiola makes statement about City future

The Spaniard discussed his future at the Etihad Stadium ahead of City’s friendly against AC Milan at Yankee Stadium.

“When I’m leaving, I will say I’m leaving, but I didn’t say that,” Guardiola said, as per the BBC. “We will see what happens. But I will not rule it out absolutely to extend my contract. I would love to stay because I would love to stay.”

As mentioned, Guardiola waited until the November before his contract expired before signing a new deal and the Spaniard could well repeat the trick for a third time.

Were he to sign a new deal at the Etihad Stadium, this would take him past the ten year mark in Manchester.
