Speaking on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Bruno Guimaraes has been speaking about his life at Newcastle United and his relationship with the fans.
To say that Guimaraes is a fan favourite at St James’ Park would be something of an understatement. He’s arguably the most beloved player on Tyneside since Alan Shearer and he’s soaking up the adulation.
Indeed, Guimaraes says he’s never felt anything like the bond he has with the fans in Newcastle, stating that he feels like he’s the mayor of the city when he walks the streets due to the amount of love he receives day-to-day.

Guimaraes is loving it
The midfielder discussed how amazing his relationship has been with the fans from day one.
“It was always my dream to play in the Premier League and to play in the first time was amazing. To feel St James’ Park was great. The love between me and the fans, I need to keep it going. The Premier League is the most difficult league in the world and I’m happy to be here,” Guimaraes.
“When you know that the fans are behind you, you play like a 12, when I’m in the streets I feel like the Mayor of the city, the fans are crazy with me and I’ve never lived this before what I am living here and I want to enjoy it as much as I can and play like a Geordie on the pitch.”
Buying in
Guimaraes is doing brilliantly at Newcastle, not only because he is supremely talented, but also because he’s completely buying into the club, the city and the project.
A lot of players could’ve just joined the Magpies for the payday in January, but Guimaraes is really taking to life in the north east, and fans are repaying that love.
He feels like he’s the Mayor of Newcastle, and while he may not get that title, he surely isn’t far from earning the freedom of the city with his performances.
