Kieran Trippier has stated that when he was at Tottenham he went to Anfield to win and it’s ‘no different’ now when his Atletico Madrid side take on Liverpool on Wednesday night, as he told his pre-match press conference.

The last time Atletico played Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League, they knocked them out of the competition, before the coronavirus pandemic hit the world and shut everything down.

Whilst the La Liga champions were beaten in their own backyard by a Mo Salah brace last time out, they will be hoping to cause another upset tonight themselves.

During his days in Tottenham colours, Trippier, when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge, had some quality battles against the Reds and even finished above them on occasions.

The England right-back was asked about playing at Anfield, previously at Tottenham, and what his mindset will be like now in Madrid colours.

“When I was at Tottenham, we went there to win,” said Trippier. “It’s no different now that I am at Atletico Madrid.

“It’s the same mindset, it’s the same attitude to go there to win and get the three points. The atmosphere is good.

“But as a football player, these are the game you want to play in. These are the games and the atmospheres you want to be involved in. It’s going to be electric and an entertaining game for everyone to watch.”

If Sadio Mane starts for Liverpool, then Trippier will be tasked with trying to keep him at bay.

Perhaps it’s better than having to mark the rampant, goalscoring machine and all-action Salah, who didn’t score in his last game.

So, given that he has only failed to score in two games in all competitions this term, that counts as a bad patch for the world’s best player.

Therefore, he should probably be back to normal against Diego Simeone’s men tonight and scoring perhaps only a few goals? Maybe a solo effort for entertainment purposes?
