Andros Townsend has been speaking to the official Premier League YouTube channel, where he mentioned his time at Newcastle.
The 30-year-old was asked about the best passers he’s played alongside throughout his career, and Jonjo Shelvey earned a shoutout.
What’s the story?
Well, Townsend feels Shelvey is the best passer of the ball he’s played with throughout his career.
Speaking on YouTube, the Everton forward said: “Probably Jonjo Shelvey, when I was at Newcastle. His range of passing, as a winger, is perfect, as you know he’s got everything in the bag, every club. You just have to stay wide and watch him find you, you just make the run and you know it’s coming with quality.”
Townsend has played with a number of phenomenal players, so his claim about Shelvey – who Newcastle paid £12m for – speaks volumes.
So far this season, the Newcastle No.8 has made 21 appearances for the Magpies, scoring two goals while also providing three assists.

Shelvey has been a mainstay under Eddie Howe, and has even worn the captain’s armband in his last six Premier League appearances.
Jonjo Shelvey has stepped up for Newcastle
Since Howe replaced Steve Bruce, Shelvey has been a key man for Newcastle.
The former Liverpool maestro scored a vital goal against Leeds at Elland Road to give Newcastle just their second Premier League win of the season.
Shelvey also provided an assist for Chris Wood away to Southampton, which helped the Magpies turn a 1-0 deficit into a 2-1 win.

At a time where Newcastle have needed leaders, he has done very well to stand up and be counted.
Shelvey’s efforts have helped Newcastle rise to 15th in the Premier League, where they now sit ten points above the relegation zone.
In our view, Howe will be delighted with the Englishman, who has really upped his game since Bruce left Tyneside.
