Rio Ferdinand has suggested that Harry Kane should boycott Tottenham training as he compared the striker’s situation to the one he had at Leeds, as he told his own YouTube channel.
In 2002, Ferdinand moved from Leeds to Manchester United in a then world-record fee for a defender and a British transfer record – the latter has since been surpassed by Jack Grealish this summer.
But another player that seemingly wants to join Grealish at Manchester City is Harry Kane, with the 2020/21 Golden Boot winner having to deny claims that he missed training on purpose.
Ferdinand compared his transfer from Leeds to Man United many years ago to the situation Kane currently is in.
“When I was at Leeds, I came back from the World Cup I did fairly well to gain the interest of Manchester United,” said Ferdinand.
“I knew the club had rejected an offer. It was a British record at the time. World record for a defender.
“In hearing that, I then went into the chairman and just spoke to him and I said ‘there is no way I am getting on that plane (for the pre-season tour) whatever happens. I will stay here. It’s a good offer. It’s Champions League football. Chance for me to win trophies, please let me go’.
“But Kane’s argument to Tottenham is that ‘I want to win. I have been here for so many years. We are in a worse position now than when we got to a Champions League final, so I want to win and let me go’.
“If I am Harry Kane then I would just say ‘I am not coming back to train’.”

It just had to be written in the script for Tottenham to play Manchester City in their opening Premier League game on Sunday.
If Kane does feature, most likely from the bench because of his lack of match practice, then it’s interesting to see what type of reception he gets.
Perhaps it will be a role reversal, the Man City fans cheering him and sections of the Spurs supporters booing him.
Either way, this isn’t an ideal situation for Nuno Espirito Santo, who has been put in a rather sticky situation before he can officially get his Spurs reign underway.
