Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce has pointed towards Tottenham Hotspur’s reliance on Harry Kane to prove how big a blow Callum Wilson’s injury is to his side, as per his comments in the Chronicle.

Wilson is set to miss weeks of acton for Newcastle after picking up a hamstring injury, which is a major concern.

Tottenham recently had to deal without their main striker in Kane, and they badly struggled.

Jose Mourinho’s side could barely muster up a shot on target without Kane, let alone a win, and they had to rush him back from injury.

That may not be an option for Newcastle, who are dealing with a muscle problem with Wilson, rather than an ankle issue like Kane had.

And Bruce said: “We’ve had injury and illness this season.

“When I see a big team like Tottenham and how reliant they are on somebody like Harry Kane, you do need your top players, especially at the top end of the pitch.

“Unfortunately, we have been dealt another blow.

“Let’s hope we can cope with it and somebody can step up to the mark.”

Tottenham do now have Kane back and the improvement in their performances has already been notable.

Newcastle will be concerned about their chances without Wilson, though.

Bruce’s side have hardly been free-flowing in attack even with their main goalscorer available, and the concern is that they could be far too defensive now he is out.
