Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique has doubts about the Reds’ reported bid for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
According to The Telegraph, Liverpool are trying to hijack Chelsea’s move for Moises Caicedo and have now outbid their rivals for his signature.
Enrique, however, is not convinced. He took to Twitter to say: “When I see it I will believe it.”
Caicedo is not the only player Liverpool and Chelsea have both targeted this transfer window. As per The Athletic, the two English giants have also submitted bids for Southampton’s Romeo Lavia.
It is hardly a surprise that Liverpool and Chelsea have the likes of Caicedo and Lavia on their radar. Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino have lost so many midfielders this summer.
Klopp has watched Jordan Henderson and Fabinho depart Anfield, for example, while Pochettino has said goodbye to N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
Moises Caicedo still looks set to join Chelsea
It would be great if Liverpool could land Caicedo. Last season, he was easily one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.
Only one player made more tackles than the 21-year-old, who recorded 100 (FBref). With him and Virgil van Dijk in the same side, the Reds could be a real nightmare to play against for attackers.
If Caicedo is to leave Brighton during this transfer window, though, it looks like Chelsea will be his destination.

According to The Guardian, while Liverpool are interested in the Ecuador international, his heart is set on joining their Premier League rivals.
It is a blow for the Reds, but it could put them back in the driving seat to sign Lavia. With the same outlet reporting that Chelsea are also closing in on Leeds United’s Tyler Adams, it would be a surprise if they then went on to buy the Belgian and Caicedo.
Pochettino would probably find it hard to keep Caicedo, Lavia, Adams and Enzo Fernandez all happy. Given how crazy Chelsea can be in the transfer window at times, though, never say never.
