On I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here last night, former Tottenham and Newcastle star David Ginola opened up on his heart attack.

The Frenchman told his campmates that he actually died for 12 minutes after collapsing at a charity football match, but when did this happen?

When did David Ginola have his heart attack?

Back in May 2016. The Newcastle and Tottenham icon was playing on the French Riviera, when he collapsed and even swallowed his own tongue.

Ginola stopped breathing completely, and told This Morning in 2018 that 90% of people who suffer what he suffered are left in a vegetative state.

Fellow player Frédéric Mendy performed live-saving CPR, before Ginola also had defibrillator shocks to get his heart beating again.

In the I’m A Celeb camp, Ginola said: “Just playing football and at one stage you just fall on the floor. They had to perform CPR for 12 minutes and they arrived with the defibrillator and they shocked me one time, two times, three times… they said, ‘I think your friend is dead.’

“A fourth, fifth time… the fifth time, a heartbeat. Yeah… the surgeon said, ‘You’ve been very lucky David, it’s a miracle. In your condition 9 out of 10 would have died.’”

The 54-year-old then underwent surgery, and was left in a coma.

Ginola returned to TV work just three weeks after the incident – which he admitted was foolish – before suffering a quadruple heart bypass while doing punditry work at EURO 2016.

It goes without saying that Ginola is lucky to be alive, let alone active and partaking in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

So far, the Frenchman is doing well at Gwrych Castle in Wales.

Viewers were left impressed as he motivated Emmerdale actor Danny Miller before a Bushtucker trial, which led to him winning five stars.

Some viewers on Twitter even tipped Ginola for the Manchester United vacancy after seeing his inspirational words.

Hopefully, the Newcastle and Tottenham legend can go the distance in this series, and leave victorious.
