Having struggled to obtain a starting berth for much of the season so far Sturridge was given his chance against United, but failed to impress and was substituted in the second half – if he gets another chance against the Baggies, the pressure will be on him to take it.
Sturridge’s task may be made simpler by the absence of Jonny Evans from the visitors back four through suspension; the onus is on Evans’ Northern Irish compatriot McAuley to step up and lead the defence.
