Noel Whelan is a regular co-commentator on BBC Radio Leeds during Leeds United’s games, and he was on duty for the match against Barnsley at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds returned to winning ways in the Championship with a narrow 2-1 victory over Barnsley at home.

After the match, former Leeds striker Whelan made an observation that Whites fans will find very encouraging.

Whelan noticed defender Liam Cooper training and looking fit after the match. The 26-year-old centre-back has had injury issues in recent times, but the former Scotland Under-19 international was an unused substitute against Barnsley.

Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds after the match while analysing the game: “I am just looking down here and just seeing Liam Cooper back as well.

“It’s fantastic to see him back, going through some training drills out here with fitness coach, and he looks spot-on again, I will be honest with you.”

Encouraging

Cooper is a very important player for Leeds and is a good defender, and him getting some minutes between now and the end of the season will be good for him.

The 2018-19 campaign is basically over for Leeds, but the West Yorkshire outfit should do their best to win their final games of the season and finish in the top half of the league table.
