Leeds United lost in the Championship at the weekend.

Pontus Jansson of Leeds United celebrates after the Sky Bet Championship match between Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on February 25, 2017 in Leeds, England.

Noel Whelan has criticised Leeds United duo Pontus Jansson and Eunan O’Kane on BBC Radio Leeds.

The former Leeds striker believes that O’Kane was rightly sent off against Ipswich Town at the weekend.

The 27-year-old Republic of Ireland international was dismissed in the 37th minute of the Championship game against Ipswich away from home at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon.

O’Kane was sent off for an off-the-ball incident involving Jonas Knudsen, and former Leeds striker Whelan has criticised the ex-Bournemouth star.

Whelan has also slammed Leeds central defender Jansson for his conduct during the match.

The 26-year-old Sweden international centre-back, who is hugely popular among the Leeds fans, was shown a yellow card during the match and could have been given his marching orders.

Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds about O’Kane: “There’s no excuses there. It is what it is, lack of professionalism and discipline from a very experienced player that should know better, and that was the turning point in the game.”

“Jansson’s complaining, but he is the first one to dish it out,” Whelan told BBC Radio Leeds about Jansson. “If you can’t dish it out and take it, then don’t bother.

“It’s alright being aggressive on the opposition, but they are going to be just as aggressive with you, so you have got to be able to take it like a man, get on with it, enjoy that side of the game. Don’t spit your dummy out.”

The performance of Leeds against Ipswich was disappointing, and fans must be bitterly disappointed.

True, winning at Portman Road is not easy, but the Whites have enough quality to have at least picked up a point from the encounter on Saturday.
