Arsenal transfer guru Edu clearly has a major soft spot for a certain Philippe Coutinho.
Ever since Edu returned to North London in the summer of 2019, there’s been a lot of rumours about the Gunners signing the former Liverpool maestro, who joined Barcelona for £142 million in 2018.
Even before joining Aston Villa on loan in January, there was still speculation about Arsenal getting the 29-year-old.
This is somebody who Edu has worked with in the Brazil set-up in the past.
And whisper it, but the wheels might be in motion for the South American to finally get his man this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo on Thursday, Arsenal have already made contact with Coutinho’s representatives about a summer transfer to the Emirates Stadium.
This came on the back of a report from Sport last Saturday which reiterated the Gunners’ eternal desire to sign him.
Fabrizio Romano has previously reported that Aston Villa haven’t yet decided on whether to sign the player permanently, despite scoring four and setting up three goals in 10 Premier League appearances since returning to England.
Villa’s indecisiveness could be Arsenal’s advantage in this scenario.
At 29, Coutinho is far from finished and still has a few years of his prime left – and those few years could be spent at the Emirates after all.
