Aston Villa’s push for promotion means that January signings may well be targeted by manager Steve Bruce – and reports suggest that he could target an ambitious move in 2018.
Villa drew 0-0 away at Birmingham this afternoon to keep themselves around the play-off places, with manager Bruce enjoying a strong run of recent results.
Still, with the January transfer window just around the corner, Villa could look for additions to boost their promotion hopes, and The Mirror claim that Bruce is interested in landing Michael Carrick.

Carrick, 36, joined United from Tottenham Hotspur back in 2006, and he has now racked up more than 450 appearances for the club in over 11 years at Old Trafford, winning five league titles in the process.
The former England international penned a one-year extension with United earlier this year, but has yet to play even a single minute of Premier League action this season, leading to speculation over his future.
It’s claimed that Villa could rival Premier League clubs Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion in the race to sign Carrick in January, though the midfielder currently has no plans to leave Old Trafford.

Still, the rumours of a move for Carrick have sparked a reaction from Villa fans on Twitter, with a split emerging, given that some fans believe that Villa already have enough ageing players right now, such as John Terry and fellow midfielder Glenn Whelan.
Others think that Carrick would be a quality addition not just for this season, but also beyond, claiming he still has plenty in the tank – and think he could boss the Championship, helping Villa win promotion back to the top flight.
