Liverpool beat Arsenal 2-0 on Wednesday evening, and while Trent Alexander-Arnold failed to register an assist against the Gunners on this occasion, he was still pulling the strings for the Reds.
Indeed, the right-back created a number of dangerous chances – most notably on the stroke of half-time, while he also completed six long balls and three successful crosses.
Once again, the footballing world was in awe of Alexander-Arnold’s passing abilities, and while Gabriel Martinelli caused him a lot of problems defensively, the full-back’s playmaking abilities were never in doubt.
In fact, Alexander-Arnold’s passing was so good that Gary Lineker was blown away, stating that the 23-year-old is the best passer of the ball in England.
It seems as though Lineker is bemused by the idea of a full-back being the best passer in England, but that’s the way the game is going these days.
Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only player in this mould. Joao Cancelo, Reece James and Kieran Trippier are also excellent passers, and while Kevin De Bruyne may have something to say about it, it’s not outrageous to suggest that Alexander-Arnold is indeed the best passer of the ball in the country.
Liverpool are very lucky to have the defender at their disposal, and while it may be a bit baffling to see a right-back playing in such a way, there’s no question of just how good this young man is when it comes to picking out a teammate.
