Ian Wright admits that he was questioning Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino when he missed a sitter against Leicester City on Sunday evening, as per his comments to Premier League Productions.

The out of sorts Liverpool striker was presented with a gilt-edged chance to seal the three points for his side, when he was played through one-on-one, but he dragged his shot against the post.

Although the effort did nearly creep over the line, Leicester just about scrambled it away, as Firmino’s goal drought continued.

Thankfully for the Brazilian he was not waiting too long for his next chance, as he headed home from a corner to make it 3-0 to Liverpool.

And Wright says that he is delighted that the 29-year-old was able to get on the scoresheet.

“I’m absolutely delighted for Firmino, simply because of the way he plays,” Wright said.

“There’s not many other players in the Liverpool players who can do what he does, when he comes off and links up the play.

“He had a chance which came off the post and you had to laugh and say ‘what’s going on with him?’ but for him to get his goal is brilliant and deserved and I hope he can go on and continue to do what he was doing before.”

Even after his goal there is no doubt that Firmino is under some significant pressure right now.

Diogo Jota’s emergence at Liverpool has put his place in the team under real threat.

Jurgen Klopp has always stood by his long-term forward until now, but with Mohamed Salah set to be available again in the near future, it will be interesting to see if Firmino keeps his place in the coming weeks.
