Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Lee Dixon has been critiquing Arsenal’s celebrations after beating Tottenham last season.
The Gunners’ Amazon documentary was released last week, and in episode two, the story of their victory in the north London derby last September was showcased.
After their victory against Spurs, Arsenal were over the moon, and they made sure to show how happy they were in the dressing room, even getting a team picture to commemorate the moment.
Dixon has a real problem with how Arsenal celebrated, claiming that the team had treated it as if they’d won the World Cup.
What’s been said?
Dixon spoke about the celebrations after the Spurs game.
“I don’t know what the celebrations were like in the dressing rooms after the game, but that’s been a problem in the past for me. I’ve been watching the Amazon stuff on the TV and it was as if they’d won the World Cup after beating Tottenham, I was like ‘what’s going on’. They had a team photo and everything,” Dixon said.
Keeping morale high
We can understand where Dixon is coming from here, the celebrations after the Tottenham game were a bit over the top, but at the same time, there’s nothing wrong with building morale within a team.
Let’s not forget, for many of these players this was their first taste of success in a north London derby, and if they want to celebrate that moment, so be it.
Yes, you need to keep everyone grounded, but you can save all of that talk for training the next day.
There’s no reason why the players could have a sing and dance after securing a big win, and a team photo after such a great moment is a way to remember it.
