Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was given his chance to impress at Copa America but his substitute appearance against Panama did not go according to plan.
The hosts are at risk of crashing out of the tournament after being stunned 2-1 by Panama on Thursday night.
The United States still sit second in their group but face a difficult final group-stage match against Uruguay in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
An early red card for Timothy Weah put the USMNT on the back foot, but they took the lead against Panama through former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun.
However, it quickly went wrong for Gregg Berhalter’s side with Cesar Blackman equalising for Panama just minutes after the opener.
Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers made his first appearance of the tournament as a half-time substitute but the 26-year-old had a match to forget.

Cameron Carter-Vickers slammed by US media
Brought on to try and shore up the defence, Carter-Vickers did anything but – he was at fault for Jose Fajardo’s winner and was lucky to not concede a late penalty.
Speaking on Golazo America, USMNT legend Tony Meola pulled no punches in his assessment of the Celtic defender’s performance.
“Across the backline, Anthony Robinson is the only one I give a grade to in this match to be honest,” he said.
“Cameron Carter-Vickers – whatever that lowest grade is we want to give a player, he was poor in the game and he almost cost the US before.”
Cameron Carter-Vickers at Celtic next season
Carter-Vickers has been a key player for Brendan Rodgers and he even wore the captain’s armband on a regular occasion towards the end of the Scottish Premiership campaign.
But there is no denying that he is clumsy and error-prone and it seems those traits have carried over to his international duty.

Celtic will have their sights set on defending their league title once again next season and they will need Carter-Vickers to start the season full of confidence – it will have taken a knock after his dire display against Panama.
