Celtic took Anton Rodgers on trial over the summer.

A number of players have been on trial with Celtic in recent years, with Irish talent Elvis Azah the latest, according to reports from the Daily Mail.
Australian duo Nick Faust and Leo Mazis both went on trial with Celtic recently (Daily Record), with Mazis earning a permanent deal at Celtic Park, but what about one of the players who didn’t win a deal?
Last summer, Celtic took on BW Linz in a pre-season friendly, and fans were surprised to see the name ‘Rodgers’ on the teamsheet; but rather than manager Brendan Rodgers deciding to put on a pair of boots again, it was his son Anton wearing a Bhoys shirt.

The 25-year-old was handed a short trial, predominantly for fitness reasons, last summer, and spent a short time with Celtic before moving on without being handed a contract by this father.
Formerly of Swindon Town and Oldham Athletic, Rodgers had carved out a career as a midfielder in the Football League after being in the youth ranks of Chelsea and Brighton, but he struggled to find a club after his time with Celtic.
Five months after his time with Celtic, Rodgers finally found a new club, signing for non-league Hungerford Town in November, with the Crusaders lauding the signing as a coup on their official website after completing the deal.

The Berkshire-based outfit once had Charlie Austin on their books, and midfielder Rodgers dropped into the sixth tier to join the club and kickstart his career, with Hungerford sitting just outside the relegation zone.
That’s a far cry from turning out for Celtic, and shows that Rodgers was right to only let his son train with the club for fitness reasons, rather than handing him a deal that wasn’t warranted…which hasn’t always been the case with some managers and their sons over the years.
