McIlduff spent 12 years at Celtic Park and at one stage looked bound for Leeds United.

Released by Celtic in the summer, Aidan McIlduff looked set to bounce back at Leeds United.

The Whites had him on trail at the end of July, but no contract materialised, leaving the left-back to continue his search for employment elsewhere.

Discussing his post-Celtic struggles in the Scottish Sun last month, McIlduff explained: “Teams were saying they had no more money left in the budget or that they didn’t need any more players.

“I went to Dumbarton at first, then on to Leeds for two weeks. I was told I’d done well there after a bounce game with the first team. I really enjoyed it down there and the lads were all really welcoming.

“They told me they were going to sign me and I came back up the road to sort things at this end. Instead they signed a boy from Manchester United (Cameron Borthwick-Jackson) and that was that.

“It was disappointing because they’re a big club but I suppose it’s a lesson learned about the other side of the game.”

So where is he now? The answer: 177 miles from Celtic and 382 from Leeds, at Peterhead.

And things seem to be going well for the 20-year-old, who has won three of his four games for his new employers – helping them to second in the Scottish League Two table.

But what of the other under-23 age group trialists who weren’t offered contracts at Elland Road?

Diego Lattie

The once highly-coveted Liverpool right back remains on the Reds’ books, although he did turn out for Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Under-18s earlier this month.

Another Liverpool full-back, left-sided Owens is also at Anfield still, and has appeared for the Premier League side’s Under-23s this season.
