According to a report from The Sun, former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri is ready to take Mauricio Pochettino’s job at Tottenham if the Argentine decides to quit.

Allegri has been without a club since leaving Italian champions Juventus at the end of last season. The Italian is one of the most experienced managers in world football and he would be an exciting appointment for Tottenham should Pochettino leave in the near future.

A six-time Serie A winning manager, Allegri could be exactly what Tottenham need to finally end their decade long trophy drought. Pochettino has certainly improved Tottenham since joining them five years ago, but Allegri would bring a lot of change.

In terms of tactics, Tottenham can forget about the rigorous pressing that has been so important in Pochettino’s regime. The Italian’s sides over the years often drop back into their own box when they lose possession with only their two furthest players trying to press.

Allegri prefers a double pivot in midfield and when they are in possession, he welcomes his opponents to press them hard so as to free up space elsewhere in the pitch. This proved to be extremely effective in 2017/18 at Juventus where Miralem Pjanic and Sami Khedira excelled in moving the ball forward despite being under pressure.

Spurs can expect an exciting midfield partnership of Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso with someone like Eriksen pulling the strings ahead of them. Tottenham would be a lot more solid defensively than they have been since the turn of the year under Pochettino.

A winning mentality seems to be the only thing lacking for Tottenham at the moment and Pochettino seems to have led this side as far as he could.

A change would suit all parties involved and if it does happen, Allegri would be a phenomenal appointment for Tottenham.
