The Polish midfielder has been linked with Leeds United but how would his arrival affect the Scottish international?

According to a recent report from Voetbal International, Leeds United are planning a summer raid for Polish international Mateusz Klich, but his arrival could be telling for a current Whites player in the form of Liam Bridcutt.

The former Sunderland man featured 25 times for Leeds this season but his influence waned as the campaign wore on, leaving some to question whether he should even be in the starting XI.

Leeds’ other midfield options are Eunan O’Kane, Ronaldo Vieira and Kalvin Phillips, and while the latter is little more than a fringe player at Elland Road, the former pair have done enough to justify plenty of minutes next season and beyond.

O’Kane may not be everyone’s cup of tea but he has been far more consistent than Bridcutt, and if Klich does arrive at Leeds it could be the Scottish international who sees the most dramatic fall from grace.

Vieira is still extremely young and his career will continue to be managed effectively by Leeds boss Garry Monk, with the distinct possibility that it will be the young Englishman, O’Kane and Bridcutt all scrapping for a place alongside Klich if the latter arrives this summer.

Of course this is merely hypothetical at this stage. However there is no doubt Leeds need more quality in central areas, with a goal-scoring midfielder key to their ongoing progress.

Klich is certainly that, and at 26 he is the right age to hit the ground running at Elland Road.

The 10-capped Polish international can score and create and perhaps most worrying for Bridcutt, some of his best performances have come when he has been wearing the captain’s armband for FC Twente.
