What will Kenedy’s proposed arrival at Newcastle United mean for Paul Dummett?
According to The Daily Mail, Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign Kenedy on loan.
The Magpies look like they might finally get their man following plenty of speculation about him joining Newcastle last summer, but it failed to materialise.
Manager Rafael Benitez will be delighted, but one man who might not be is Paul Dummett.
If Benitez plans on playing Kenedy as a left-back then surely it will be ahead of Dummett, given that the Spanish manager wanted the Brazilian in June, when Dummett was fit.
The 26-year-old is close to a return to first-team action after suffering a hamstring injury on the opening day of the season.
But signing the 21-year-old – whose main position is left-back but can also play on the wing – might just mean that Dummett could return as a squad player when he’s fit.
Throughout his absence, the struggles of Chancel Mbemba and Javier Manquillo in that role meant that the local lad was almost certain to win his place back and that must have spurred him on during his recovery process.
But he might just morph into a squad player even after he’s fit if Benitez has designs on playing Kenedy in that position.
