Arsenal moved to improve their central defensive options recently with the signature of Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia.

The Gunners paid a fee reported to be in the region of £35 million, according to the BBC, to bring in the World Cup winner.

Mustafi will add some serious cover at the back for Arsenal – who are looking for a long-term replacement for Per Mertesacker.

But one man who might have some interesting views on Mustafi will be Monday Night Football pundit and former Manchester United player Gary Neville.

He was of course the Valencia manager for a period of last season, putting is money where his mouth is regarding his footballing knowledge.

It did not go well.

He was a flop at the Spanish club and was eventually sacked.

One player who was consistently bad during Neville’s time in charge of Valencia was the new Arsenal defender.

Clumsy and erratic, his performances did not help Neville in his attempts to get Valencia winning.

He was certainly not Valencia’s worst player at the time, but he was still fairly poor.

Arsenal though will know Mutafi’s talent and he is obviously a very good defensive option.

But it will be interesting to see what Neville makes of him the first chance he gets to analyse his performances.
