Harry Redknapp is convinced that Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish could transform Tottenham Hotspur’s midfield if the London giants return for the long-standing transfer target, while speaking to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT (9 July, 9:00am).

If you were wondering just how reliant relegation-threatened Villa are on their slaloming skipper, then consider this; only the masterful Kevin de Bruyne has created more chances than Grealish in the 2019/20 Premier League season.

And it speaks volumes about the problems currently facing Jose Mourinho’s increasingly insipid Spurs side that no Tottenham player is even in the top ten for chances created.

The departure of Christian Eriksen in January has left Mourinho’s midfield looking rather toothless in the final third.

Giovanni Lo Celso cannot do it all, and Monday’s dire 1-0 win over Everton set plenty of alarm bells ringing.

So, if Redknapp had his way, Tottenham would be renewing their interest in a player they bid £25 million for two years ago (Sky) when the transfer window re-opens.

“Oh for sure, that’s what they lack,” the veteran gaffer said when asked if Grealish would fit in at the 2019 Champions League finalists.

“They had Eriksen and people ho could make them play and control a football match. These days, it goes up it goes back… (Harry) Kane did more in his own box than he did in the other box (against Everton)!

“They need to recruit a couple of players in the summer.”

With Villa winless in nine league games, an immediate return to the Championship is looking increasingly likely for the Midland giants.

But, according to the Mail in June, Dean Smith’s side will demand a staggering £80 million for a homegrown hero who is rapidly outgrowing his claret and blue surroundings.
